"Voices" Community Dialogue Series

A participants shares a personal story of immigrating to the United States at a Dialogue Event hosted at San Jose State UniversitySilicon Valley is home to one of the most diverse communities in the nation, with over a third of us settling here from other countries.  Together, immigrant newcomers and longtime community members have contributed to the economic health and well-being of our region.  As residents of Silicon Valley, our prosperity is tied to the success of our community as a whole.  By welcoming and supporting immigrant newcomers in our neighborhoods, schools, and workplaces, we can help build a community where everyone can thrive.

In March 2010, AACI’s Asian American Voices project hosted its first ever "Voices" Community Dialogue.  Through our award-winning "Asian American Voices” film and facilitated small group dialogue, community dialogue participants explore the immigrant experience and discover how they can help immigrant newcomers—of all backgrounds—more easily adapt and integrate into our community.

At "Voices" Community Dialogues, community members enjoy dinner, film, speakers, and dialogue.  Through these activities, participants have the opportunity to:

•        EXPLORE the role of immigrant communities in Silicon Valley;
•        LEARN how to welcome and support immigrant newcomers in our neighborhoods; and
•        DISCOVER how we can create a more cohesive Silicon Valley.
